Alcohol and other drugs (AOD) can have a large impact on many lives as we live in a world in which AOD use is everywhere. Even if you don’t use these substances, AOD can effect your life in a number of ways.

Drug is any substance (excepting food and water) which, when taken alters your body. They can be legal (alcohol, caffeine and tobacco) or illegal (cannabis, ecstasy, cocaine and heroin).

Effects of Drugs
Its important to understand that the experience that you may have will be affected by:

  • your mood, physical size, gender, personality and whether you have food in your stomach and
  • whether other drugs or alcohol has been taken
  • the amount and how it is used and the strength and purity of the drug
  • the environment that you are in ie are you with friends, on your own, in a social setting or before an activity such as driving.

Why to people use drugs?
It’s different for everyone but some of the reasons might include: To forget about problems, out of curiosity, form of escapism, peer/social pressure, to relieve boredom and stress, to remove personal responsibility for decisions.
