FWS Resource Recovery CentreResource Recovery

The FWS Goolwa Resource Recovery Centre is being developed to provide long term employment for local people with a disability or disadvantage. The business will have a retail outlet based at Goolwa and Mt Barker for salvageable goods and materials. This social enterprise will assist with the conservation of our natural resources by reducing waste products going to landfill and recovering recyclables which are returned to the community.

This project aims to:

  • Conserve our resources by reducing the amount of recoverables going into landfill. The council staff at the depot gate will encourage patrons to recycle many of their salvageable goods from their trailers into the salvage yard thus reducing their gate fee. FWS staff will then recover further reusable items prior to the council depositing them into landfill.
  • Provide low cost retail outlets for the community. Retail outlets that sell recycled and salvaged products at a greatly reduced price to the community.

These salvage yards will be established at the Alexandrina District Council, Goolwa Refuse & Recycle Depot and Mt Barker, Windmill Hill Transfer Station by early 2008.

Currently FWS has a team of workers recycling building materials at the Construction & Demolition refuse site and delivering mulch for the Alexandrina Council.
