Fitting the pieces together
Stephen
Stephen is an 18 year old male with a learning disability, and issues with literacy/numeracy and confidence. Soon after Stephen came to FWS he completed an Australian Apprenticeship Access Program in bricklaying, receiving some very positive feedback from the trainer and gained a Certificate I in Bricklaying.
Unfortunately there wasn’t any employment opportunity locally in the building industry at the time so Stephen undertook a short employment experience in the panel beating industry.
FWS were able to secure Stephen a position in production work, manufacturing fishing floats with the view to secure a traineeship in boat building.
Doug
Doug is a 40 year old male with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Muscular-Skeletal Disorder. FWS assisted Doug to gain his first aid certificate and referred him to work experience activities to commence building his confidence. Certificate III in Disability Work became available through the Productivity Placement Program and FWS supported Doug with an application which was successful. Finding some of the assessments challenging he completed the course and gained some work experience with CLASS, helping people with disabilities. After Doug had completed the work placement he continued on as a volunteer and was able to gain employment.
Bill
Bill is a 38 year old male who has suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury. In the past Bill has worked in the dairy industry, but due to the early starts, his disability, and the travel he needed to look for an alternative job. It was clear that Bills preference was to work outdoors in a rural location. FWS sourced a position at Mount Compass collecting eggs on a free range egg farm. Bill was referred to the employer for a work experience placement which lead to employment. Bill loves the work and is happy with his transition to a more suitable job.
